The Hamsa is a protective amulet that pushes away negative energy and is commonly used to protect women. Also referred to as the Hand of Fatima, the Hand of Miriam, and the Hand of Mary, the hamsa hand was commonly used in jewelry and wall hangings. This symbol that has been present in the Middle East and North Africa for centuries, eventually becoming part of the Muslim tradition and then spreading into Judaism, and Christianity.
